Mission Statement
The Charlie B. Theatre Company is wholly produced and acted by young professionals under the age of thirty. We require the following in any of our productions:

  • Exclusive use of our ensemble
  • Commissioning and developing original works
  • New perspectives on older texts
  • Material that applies to today's world

Our goal is to provide a home base for young professionals working in Los Angeles who wish to participate in cutting-edge theatre.

    History

The Charlie B. Company was formed by Andy Donald and Daniel Hartley, two best friends since kindergarten who have been acting together since fifth grade. Created in the fall of 2000, the Company's name is a tribute to the boys' first acting experience together in a touring production of You're a Good Man Charlie Brown.

The company began as a means for the boys' to take on material they could not normally tackle in their high school environment. The summer after Andy and Daniel graduated high school the Charlie B. Company produced their first show, This is Our Youth, by Kenneth Lonergan, in the summer of 2001 to sold-out houses at the Santa Monica Playhouse and Christopher Durang's Baby with the Bathwater during the summer of 2002. During the summer of 2003, the company did two shows in a repertory season of political theatre. The shows included Dario Fo's We Won't Pay! We Won't Pay! and Terrence McNally's Where Has Tommy Flowers Gone? Currently the company is in production for its 2004 summer season.
